Phospha E®

Phospha E® is a patented derivative of vitamin E. Although Phospha E® is derived from vitamin E it has superior properties compared to its parent. For example, Phospha E®:

  • Is better absorbed than vitamin E, both orally and through the skin
  • Is more effective than vitamin E, for example:
      • Phospha E®, has been shown to lower cholesterol & triglycerides and prevents formation of plaque in heart arteries

(as shown in two pre-clinical studies where Phospha E® significantly reduced LDL ("bad") cholesterol & triglycerides and prevented plaque formation by up to 60%)
    • Phospha E®, has unique anti-inflammatory properties

Phospha E® has applications across all three nutraceutical market segments:

    Personal Care

Phospha E® is marketed as Vital ET™ by its worldwide distributor ISP Corporation. ISP is a supplier of ingredients to the skin & cosmetics industry. Examples of products containing Vital ET ™ include Revlon Bozzano (Brazil), Murad Recovery Treatment Gel (US), Acnil (Australia) and Eternal Beauty (Australia).

    Functional Foods and Beverages

Phospha E®’s water-dispersible formulation can be incorporated into beverages and foods.

In April 2006, Phosphagenics and Nestlé Nutrition, a unit of Nestlé S.A. the world's biggest food and beverage company, entered into a research agreement to develop Phospha E® for use in nutritional products that target the prevention and treatment of metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndrome is characterised by a group of metabolic risk factors –abdominal obesity and elevated blood pressure, cholesterol, triglycerides and blood glucose. The root causes of metabolic syndrome are overweight/obesity, physical inactivity, and genetic factors. It is estimated that about 27% of adults in the
US have metabolic syndrome and that one in three overweight or obese people in the US have this condition. The condition is being diagnosed with increasing frequency.

Phosphagenics believes that functional foods represent a large market opportunity for Phospha E® due to its superior efficacy and its ability to be differentiated in the market.

A phase 2 clincial trial of Phospha E®, which is fully funded by Nestlé Nutrition is currently underway.
